Our participants were given an insight into the world of media production - covering a variety of skills including camera operations, story-boarding, location shooting & editing our participants learnt how to create a basic production from beginning to end, using professional media equipment.

YSN's GET CONNECTED project began in July 2007. This aims to get young people actively involved in their community by training them in interviewing & presenting techniques giving them the confidence and skills to get out into the community and create TV/radio style interviews & news reports on issues that affect their lives. Whether you're interviewing celebrities, local MPs or members of the public - everyone should have a voice! The final pieces will be promoted/distributed online and throughout the borough. »

This project gave it's participants an introduction to film & music production. A short documentary was then produced which examines the experiences of young people within the care system. The final product will be a valuable training aid for staff (carers) and will be used as a widespread tool not just for the Looked After Children (LAC) service and other agencies. Hackney also commissioned YSN to create, design and manage the red carpet premiere evening which featured a screening, formal dinner, live entertainment and celebrity guests. »

In Sept 2006 YSN took part in the One Love Hackney Peace Week which was a week long programme of events culminating in a large outdoor event in Shoreditch Park. This project aimed to give a group of young people the hands on experience of filming at a live event, which is very different from working in a standard studio or a film set. »

The workshops began in September 2004 and were designed to give prospective students the opportunity to be trained in the process of media production. Covering key skills such as directing, script writing, editing, camera operations and post-production. the young people were tasked with creating their own mini production using the skills they had developed. The students hard work paid off and they produced a short film called 'Gambit' click the video link below to view the video. »
