In September 2006 Youth Skills Network took part in the One Love Hackney Peace Week which was a week long programme of events culminating in a large outdoor event in Shoreditch Park. The week is specifically target at helping to tackle the growing problem of gun and gang violence, as well as the increase in knife crimes amongst London’s young people, especially those of African-Caribbean and Kurdish/Turkish origin.

The free open-air festival, featured Diyar, the internationally renowned Kurdish folk singer along with leading UK Urban and R&B acts including Fun-Damental, Nathan, Trinity Stone and Soundbwoy Entertainment.

The Location, Location, Location project was developed to give a group of young people the hands on experience of filming at a live event, which is very different from working in a standard studio or a film set. With the help of our tutors the our young team became a professional camera crew following the Mardi Gras Carnival and Peace Walk through the streets of Hackney and they also filmed the entire event including the main stage and the talent tent.

A great day was had by all at what turned out to be very successful event. After the event the young people were also taken through the process of editing the final piece; which enabled them to gain an understanding of the editing process.

The YSN team want to say a massive thank you to all the young people who took part and all of the people who made the day such a great success!
