Bgirl Lyra (real name Stella Mcgowan) has been dancing for 9 years in various styles. She currently specialises in Bgirlin' (commercially known as "Break-dancing"). She also has many years experience in Modern & Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Street Dance Styles, Yoga, Pilates, Circus Skills & Gymnastics.
Lyra began her training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. She continued her Contemporary & Ballet Dance training gaining an HND in Dance from Newcastle College & a BAHons in Dance Theatre from The Laban Centre London. After Graduating from dance school Lyra went on to join Flic school of circus in italy where she developed her acrobatic, dance & theatre skills.
For at least the next 5 years Lyra's mind is set on competing in bgirl and bboy competitions around Europe and the World. Lyra is focused on contributing to the scene by continuing to develop her own style of bgirlin that can be recoginised in years to come.

Lyra has sponsorship from Nike also works for other big names such as, Sony Walkman, Calvin Klein, Porsche, Lynx, Oxfam, Ribena, Phones for you, Lee Clothing, Madagascar Viral Shoot, Heat magazine, Playstation, Eastpack, Kiss100, Midnight Madness, Nass Extreme Sports Festival, Ski Sports Festival Olympia, DMC World Championships.
Lyra has travelled the world dancing and performing including Namibia in Africa shooting an advert for Samsung. Other places she has visited for work include Bulgaria, Italy, Paris, Berlin, Quatar, Copenhagen, Belfast, Budapest, Germany, Dublin, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Birmingham, Leeds.
WHAT DO I HOPE TO ACHIEVE?
Lyra wishes to continue growing and developing in all dance styles including House dancing, Boogaloo, Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Dance Theatre and Choreography.
Lyra also aims to educate young people both about hip hop and how to use their bodies as a form of expression. She also aims to help students grow in confidence and develop their swagger. There is a negative attitude towards hip hop. Lyra educates people breaking down misconceptions and making people aware of the huge positive influence underground hip hop gives to young people. Giving all young people a way to express themselves.
Lyra teaches In Schools for the Royal Academy of Dance as part of the 'Step into Dance' Programme. Also Council estates, and Traveller Sites around London with Flying Gorillas Company. Assistant choreographer to Jonzi D for Central School of Ballet.
